Effective kink-kink interaction in a one-dimensional model mediated by phonon exchange

1994

The general 1D double-well model with anharmonic interaction is considered in the displacive limit. Expansion of the Hamiltonian around a multikink state results in a phonon-kink Hamiltonian. It is shown that at rather low temperatures and short wave lengths the phonon-kink interaction can be treated in Born approximation, leading to a decomposition of the multikink-phonon Hamiltionian. Elimination of the phonons results in an effective potential for the kink-kink interaction, which corresponds to the one-dimensional analog of the RKKY interaction. This long-range interaction is inherent only for models with anharmonic on-site potentials and not in case of a double-parabola model.

Evolution-Oriented User-Centric Data Warehouse

2011

Data warehouses tend to evolve, because of changes in data sources and business requirements of users. All these kinds of changes must be properly handled, therefore, data warehouse development is never-ending process. In this paper we propose the evolution-oriented user-centric data warehouse design, which on the one hand allows to manage data warehouse evolution automatically or semi-automatically, and on the other hand it provides users with the understandable, easy and transparent data analysis possibilities. The proposed approach supports versions of data warehouse schemata and data semantics.

Measuring music-induced emotion: A comparison of emotion models, personality biases, and intensity of experiences

2011

Most previous studies investigating music-induced emotions have applied emotion models developed in other fields to the domain of music. The aim of this study was to compare the applicability of music-specific and general emotion models – namely the Geneva Emotional Music Scale (GEMS), and the discrete and dimensional emotion models – in the assessment of music-induced emotions. A related aim was to explore the role of individual difference variables (such as personality and mood) in music-induced emotions, and to discover whether some emotion models reflect these individual differences more strongly than others. One hundred and forty-eight participants listened to 16 film music excerpts a…

Los fenómenos disociativos: una revisión conceptual

2003

Fin…

Elaboration of a Critical Paradigm for Interpreting Modern Architecture: The Almost Intangible Essence of Luigi Moretti's Casa del Balilla at Trecate

2021

Modern architecture is not, from a lexical point of view, uniquely definable. The heterogeneity of the twentieth century heritage is therefore a collective wealth that should be protected from the risk of falling into oblivion. In order to avoid this, it could prove fundamental to establish a process of the knowledge of these assets. This should not, however, result in a simple and passive recording of architectural facts: a deep understanding of the complexity of modern architecture, which has as its objective the protection of buildings, could be obtained, for example, through a real and proper decoding of signs, conducted by a critical use of the metalanguage most congenial to the archit…

Two-dimensional model colloids and nano wires: phase transitions, effects of external potentials and quantum effects

2005

Abstract Quantum effects, structures and phase transitions in Nano-systems have been analyzed. An overview is given on the results of our computations on structural and elastic properties of model colloids, on phase transitions of model colloids in external fields, and on structural and electronic properties of stretched atomic wires.

2. Stato dell’arte e riferime…

Objectives pursued and achieved Conjectural reconstruction achieved the following results: • formulation of analytical documents which show how the planimetric and altimetric articulation are perfectly consistent with the functional program• definition of the level of uncertainty1. Brief description of the object of study The competition of the Palace of Justice in Rome takes place in four phases between 1884 and 1887. The project for the first competition in 1884 drawn up by the then very young Ernesto Basile (Palermo 1857-1932) reveals a great deal of design expertise that transforms the complex functional program into an austere building in neo-florentine style. The original drawings of the building not realized kept in the Basile Endowment of the Department of Architecture of the University of Palermo have been the subject of preliminary study to the phases of analysis interpretation and conceptual reconstruction of the digital model. 2. State of the art and main bibliographical references The conjectural reconstruction on the basis of drawings and archival documents is a well-established and codified practice thanks to various disciplinary contributions at national and international level. Static and dynamic policies with RFID for the scheduling of retrieval and storage warehouse operations

2013

Warehouses are essential components of logistics and supply chains. The performance of warehouse operations significantly affects the efficiency of the whole chain it belongs to. Radio frequency identification (RFID) is an emerging technology capable of providing real-time information about the location and properties of tagged object(s), such as people, equipment or products. The objective of this article is threefold, to propose and compare different offline and online policies for the scheduling of warehouse operations, to design a tool that allows the decision maker to compare policies and environments without putting them into practice, and to study the benefits that can be obtained if…
